About
About Tax Credits for Education
A plain-language resource for donors who want to understand the federal scholarship tax credit.
Who We Are
Tax Credits for Education is a free resource that helps donors understand how education tax credits can support K-12 student scholarships. We explain the federal scholarship tax credit (also called the Education Freedom Tax Credit), show which states participate, and help donors find scholarship granting organizations to give through.

Editorial Policy
- Official sources. We base our guides on official guidance from the IRS, the Treasury Department, and the Federal Register, and we link to those sources on the page.
- Visible update dates. Each guide shows when it was last updated. We revise pages when rules, deadlines, or state participation change.
- Education, not advice. Our content is educational. It is not individual tax, legal, or financial advice, and we are not tax advisers. Talk with your own qualified tax adviser before you give or claim a credit.
Tax credit details are subject to final federal rules from Treasury and the IRS and to each fund's terms.
